Today, the city remains a multinational. Its population can be divided into two groups: speakers of Latvian and Russian. In gender terms there is an overwhelming number of women (55%). Riga lies on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and consists of 6 administrative districts: Central, Ziemelsky, Kurzeme regions, Latgale, Vidzeme and Zemgale suburbs located on the both sides of the Daugava River. The official language is Latvian. Written language, which belongs to the Baltic group of Indo-European family, is based on the Latin alphabet. There is Christian. The largest areas are Roman Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism. The currency of Latvia is Lat.
